It is fair to say that almost everyone wishes to have a white and sparkling smile. After all, your smile is one of the first things others notice about you. However, the reality is, maintaining a white smile is something that requires a little help and our dental clinic is more than happy to assist you.
Professional teeth whitening is the safest and most effective way to whiten your teeth. It is also considered the most economical cosmetic dental procedure. In-office whitening can provide dramatic results and can lighten the teeth up to eight shades in only a single hour.
When compared to over-the-counter whitening products, professional teeth whitening is faster. This professionally supervised procedure will ensure sensitive gums and tooth-root surfaces are protected.
Note, we always advise patients considering teeth whitening services to schedule an oral examination first to determine if tooth discolouration is the result of a dental condition.
Professional Whitening Methods
Professional whitening involves the use of high-concentration bleaching gels that aren’t accessible over-the-counter.
- In-office whitening: This technique provides the fastest results and consists of the most powerful whitening solutions. The procedure will begin by placing a protective barrier over your gums and tooth-root surfaces. A retractor is then used to separate the lips and cheeks from the teeth and a professional-strength hygiene peroxide gel is applied. The gel will remain on the teeth for approximately one hour before it is removed. Results are immediate.
- Take-home whitening: This technique is also effective but will require more time and effort to achieve your desired level of whiteness. A mold of your teeth will be taken to create two customized trays, one for the top and one for the bottom. You will apply whitening gel to the trays and fit them over your teeth for one hour at a time.
Caring for Your Whitened Smile
For longer-lasting whitening results, practice a thorough oral hygiene routine and maintain regular professional cleanings at our office. Dark coloured foods and beverages such as red wine, coffee and tea should be avoided as they can cause stains. A minor touch-up from time to time, either at home or at our office can keep your smile bright and beautiful for years to come.
